Las Vegas

It’s been a few days since I have posted, but I had a good excuse. I was in Las Vegas.

I had not visited there in probably 15 years and the changes are amazing! So many new, breathtaking resorts/casinos. The lights seemed brighter than ever and the slot machines tighter than ever. Those darn things weren’t sharing at all! I finally got tired of throwing away money and went to a bead store … at least there I got to take pretty treasures home with me.

I met a very large group of friends and family – numbered somewhere in the 40-45 range – to celebrate the 90th birthday of a dear friend’s mom. (For some reason, I had it in my head that it was her 95th. Thank God I didn’t buy that birthday card!) It was Mrs Toungate’s idea to spend her birthday in Vegas, and I think everyone had quite a lot of fun. We all ate too much, lost too much, and walked a lot. Happy birthday again Mrs Toungate!

My brother, sister-in-law, and I stopped by Guy Fieri’s new Vegas restaurant for dinner one night. It was excellent! I had the Tatted-up Turkey Burger – it is a winner! Cindy, my sister-in-law, had a pulled pork sandwich that was great was well. So, the next time you’re in Vegas, check this place out … it’s worth it.

Jerry, Cindy, and I also made a stop at Shelby America, which is where Ford Mustangs (and a few others) are tricked-out and become Cobras or Super Snakes. Holy crap … someone fired the engine on one of the cars and that rumble was like heaven! And in addition to going fast, they are so beautiful! Now if I just had a couple hundred thousand AND knew how to drive a standard, I’d be ordering my next car. This is the one I wanted to drive home in …Featured image

Other than a disagreement with the driver of an 18-wheeler in a McDonald’s parking lot, I had a wonderful four days. And now it’s back to work. I have set a deadline for myself to get Akinyi’s book reviewed and back to her by the end of the week. I better get cracking!

I wished him a nice day, then drove up and over the curb past him 🙂 I had to stop a few blocks down to make sure I hadn’t damaged the car!

My dream vacation … except gambling… bead store, Mustangs and good food! I would have shot down to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead also.

PJ – I have been to Hoover Dam many times and done the boating tour of Lake Mead. Loved both. With the new bridge, getting to the dam is not quite as straightforward as it used to be when the traffic went across it from Arizona to Nevada. In fact, you cannot even see the dam from the new bridge because of the height of the sides. Those sides certainly ensure that you don’t know how high up you are … perfect for those afraid of heights!
